Mychaylo Prystupa award journalism Jack Webster Globe and MailI am an award-winning video and online journalist with 13 years experience in TV broadcasting, national news and independent media.

Recently, I co-won a Jack Webster journalism award for “Weigh Anchor” —a Globe and Mail special interactive report on oil tanker safety issues.  I am skilled at breaking news, data journalism, video stories, investigative digs and drone work too.

My foreign assignment work has included VJ projects in China, Uganda, Philippines, United Kingdom, France and the U.S.

I currently freelance for the Globe and Mail, The Tyee and other digital publications, and entertain video projects.

At CBC News, I filed more than 1,000 TV stories across Canada as a reporter and video journalist. I also shot, edited and produced a documentary in China for the National that won an Honourable Mention from the Columbus International Film & Video Festival in 2007.

In Vancouver’s independent media scene, I have written some 200 online stories, with dozens of the articles going super viral.

At the start of my career, I also produced a fundraising film in Cambodia for a surgical charity that helps blind people see and children walk again with free, corrective interventions. The film raised $85,000 to build a new ward for patients.

I also enjoy teaching video journalism at the InFocus Film School in Vancouver.
